DT Intent

At Frinton Primary, our intent in delivering Design and Technology (DT) education is to foster creativity, critical thinking, and resilience in our pupils. We aim to provide a rich and engaging curriculum that not only meets the national standards but also reflects the diverse cultural backgrounds of our learners. Our DT programme is designed with the following aims:

  1. Creativity and Innovation: We want our pupils to express their ideas and create functional products that inspire and motivate them. By teaching skills in design, making, and evaluation, we prepare them to be innovative thinkers.
  2. Understanding of Materials and Processes: Pupils will explore a wide range of materials and techniques, developing a sound understanding of their properties and appropriate uses. This foundational knowledge supports their ability to make informed decisions during the design process.
  3. Sustainability: We promote environmentally responsible practices within our DT curriculum, encouraging pupils to consider sustainability in their design choices and understand the impact of their creations on our world.
  4. Cultural Awareness: Our curriculum encompasses a variety of cultural influences, allowing pupils to appreciate how DT impacts society globally and historically, thus broadening their understanding of the subject.
