History Intent

At Frinton Primary, we aim to instil a deep appreciation and understanding of history in all our pupils, fostering a curiosity about the past that equips them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to engage critically with their present and shape their future. Our history curriculum is designed to:

  • Promote Historical Understanding: Pupils will explore significant events, people, and changes throughout British and world history, developing a comprehensive understanding of how the past influences the present and future.
  • Encourage Critical Thinking: We aim to cultivate critical thinkers who can analyse sources, evaluate evidence, and understand differing perspectives, thereby fostering a sense of historical empathy.
  • Enhance Cultural Capital: Our curriculum reflects the diversity of the British heritage and world history, ensuring pupils appreciate and respect the contributions of different cultures to our shared history.
  • Provide Contextual Learning: Through thematic units and cross-curricular links, we enhance pupils' understanding of history in relation to geography, art, and literature, making learning relevant and engaging.
