Physical Education
PE Intent
At Frinton Primary School, our Physical Education (PE) programme is designed with the intent to foster a lifelong love of physical activity and healthy living among all our pupils. We aim to provide an engaging and inclusive curriculum that meets the needs of all learners, promoting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Our core intentions include:
-
Holistic Development: We recognise the importance of PE in contributing to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our students. Our curriculum promotes confidence, resilience, and teamwork skills, essential for holistic development.
-
High-Quality Experiences: We strive to offer high-quality, varied, and challenging PE experiences, ensuring that every child, regardless of their ability, is encouraged to participate fully and develop their skills to their maximum potential. This includes being part of local Netball and Football leagues, representing the school at athletic and climbing tournaments. We also offer the Colchester United Coaching Awards to Year 6 pupils who then participate in a coaching programme designed to equip them with the necessary skills to lead and inspire others.
-
Cultural Awareness and Inclusivity: Our curriculum incorporates a diverse range of physical activities, reflecting the varied cultural backgrounds of our pupils. We aim to celebrate differences and encourage inclusivity through team sports, individual pursuits, and traditional games from different cultures. In the Autumn term we hold an annual inclusive bocha festival, which welcomes children from other schools to compete in a low stake environment.
-
Physical Literacy: We are dedicated to developing physical literacy—fundamental movement skills that empower children to be active participants in a range of physical activities throughout their lives. These skills are built upon sequentially and progressively year after year.
-
Health and Well-being: We place a strong emphasis on the importance of health and well-being, educating our pupils about the benefits of physical activity and encouraging them to make informed choices regarding their health.
